My Wife, her sister, and my best friend worked the same night as you described and from the time you listed and the speech you were given I am certain we were on the same bus to the Marriott. I was doing dishes, and then moved out doors to boot wash and I truly wish words could describe the stench. If I go to NYC and see steam rising from anywhere I instantly smell that smell. I think only those who were there and those who have been in a war zone can bring to mind that stench. I also remember as we got out of the bus how right in fron on West Street was the collapsed pedestrian bridge and the skeleton of the building protruding from the pile.
